I’m Jakyra Simpson, also known as Ky the Chemist, and I’m the proud founder of Products By Ky LLC and STEAM Sneakerheadz™ – two ventures that blend my love for science, creativity, and culture. As a master chemist and science communicator, I’ve always believed in teaching chemistry in a way that’s relatable and fun, and that’s where my passion for hip-hop and sneaker culture comes in!

Growing up, hip-hop, rap, jazz, and sneakers were huge parts of my life. Even though I couldn’t afford a massive sneaker collection, I stayed connected by researching and following the latest releases. That passion turned into a deep appreciation for how sneakers and hip-hop influence each other, creating a unique cultural bond. So, I decided to use these connections to create something powerful.

With STEAM Sneakerheadz™, I bring hands-on, experiential learning to life through innovative workshops for students (grades 5-12) and adults, using sneaker design and chemistry as the foundation. Together, we explore the fascinating chemistry behind sneaker materials, while also celebrating the intersections of hip-hop culture, art, and science.

From delivering a TEDx Talk at Morehouse College to gaining international recognition from organizations like the American Chemical Society, I’ve trailblazed a new path for diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEAM education. I’m passionate about encouraging underrepresented, underserved, and marginalized communities to pursue higher education in STEM fields by showing that learning can be culturally relevant and engaging.

My mission is to inspire others to blend their passions, culture, and creativity into whatever they do—because when you embrace who you are, the possibilities are endless.
